This morning Tuan (our handsome guide) woke us up at 4:30 to take us to the beach. It seemed like a crazy thing to do, but there were hundreds of bicycles and motorbikes on the road. Tuan explained that pale skin is considered attractive here, so few people venture to the beach during the day.
It seemed like most of Hoi An was there to take a morning swim, share a bit of gossip, and bury granny up to her neck in sand. The sea was as calm as glass and pleasantly warm. Around six o'clock the sun rose behind the islands in the bay. It was like a fabulous explosion on the horizon. I can't wait to return tomorrow!
After we finish our banana pancakes (the food in the hotel is great!) we plan to take a tour of Hoi An's narrow old streets by cyclo. The shopping here is terrific. Vietnam is one of the most wonderful places I have ever visited. The beauty of this country is overwhelming. The people are wonderful. Everything is a bargain. And the guys at Purple Dragon have done a fantastic job of planning this "adventure in paradise."
I'll be back! Why don't you come with me next time?
