Stories about Bangkok's new Suvarnabhumi Airport appear on the front pages of newspapers in Bangkok nearly every day. Apparently the place is falling apart already. The workmanship and construction materials involved were so sub-standard that one paper here has called Suvarnabhumi "a monument to (the) corruption" of the last government. The good news is that good old Don Muang Airport is set to reopen in April, and Bangkok will join the ranks of cities like London, Paris, Tokyo, New York, Washington, Chicago and Los Angeles that have two major airports. There is no news yet about which and how many airlines will move back to Don Muang. However, for the first months the airport will handle only domestic flights that have no international connections.
There is still time (but not much) to make arrangements to enjoy this year's Phuket Pride festival. The weekend celebration begins on Friday, March 30 with a volleyball tournament, pride carnival and grand opening party on Patong Beach. On Saturday, a "Be Free and Happy" beach party and concert. The big parade and finale party are planned for Sunday. Want to join in? Just let us know. Allen Briggs
Anyone who has been a regular visitor to Pattaya or who has
visited PattayaGay.com has encountered Allen Briggs, one of the finest people we
know here. You may have met him yourself. Allen has contributed selflessly to
the community here for many years. You may not know that Allen is recovering from a major
surgery for life-threatening problems with both his heart and his brain. Unfortunately, Allen is retired
and his insurance does not cover a substantial portion of the cost of his care. His many
friends here have established a fund to help cover his expenses and care for him
